‘The Point’ – 2017 MBA Award-winner
(New custom home $2 million to $3 million)
There was something incredibly rewarding about breathing new life into a stunning parcel of absolute waterfront land with breathtaking views. Then to be recognised with the highest possible accolade for the project was the icing on the cake. However if you were to ask us what the most rewarding aspect of this Point Frederick project was, we would tell you without hesitation that it was the relationship with the clients and the excellent collaboration between all stakeholders that made this project especially fulfilling.
The brief required us to begin by demolishing the existing residence, which included the removal of a built-in concrete pool. With a clear site and a clean slate our team set to work to transform the generous 1,915m2 parcel of land in the exclusive Central Coast suburb of Point Frederick by building a home of impeccable architectural design and world-class craftsmanship.
Designed by Slater Architects with the complex structural design prepared by Northrop Consulting Engineers, the stunning 2-storey home features Blackbutt timber floors throughout the open-plan living area, dining room and kitchen; 3 bedrooms (all with ensuite and a private balcony to two of the bedrooms); and a large alfresco entertainment terrace that wraps around the northern and western sides of the home to maximise those captivating views.
The complex, engineered structural steel accommodates floor to ceiling double-glazed glass paneling that sweeps across the home’s foreshore aspect and floods the open plan living area with natural light.
The abundant natural light in the home also highlights the flawless finish of the interior walls and ceiling, which has been constructed to the highest industry standard - Level 5, 13m gyprock.
Entry to the property is via an automatic gate that was custom-built by our team. It features a unique French design that matches the custom-made French themed timber front door. A fusion of exterior finishes on the home make a striking yet subtle impact. Exterior finishes include a combination of render, Scyon cladding, Eco Outdoor Coolum cladding in a natural stone finish and hardwood timber feature walls.

Our construction team faced various challenges on this project, including the need to remove a built-in concrete pool as part of the demolition process to clear the site, the need to accommodate and plan around the waterfront property’s difficult site access, unforeseen ground water issues and a complex design in structural steel. We allowed for extra sub drainage to overcome the ground water issues and had many of the larger items craned in to overcome the challenging site access. The project ran very smoothly from start to finish thanks to excellent communication and collaboration between all stakeholders involved in the project.
Overall an exceptional and memorable project rewarded with the ultimate accolade – the 2017 MBA Newcastle award for Custom Built Homes ($2-3 million).
