Welcome
Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter. While most builders welcomed a break over the festive season, we took minimal time out due to several new projects that kicked off in early January. As mentioned in our summer newsletter, once again Avoca Beach continues to be a hub of activity for us, with a combination of holiday home and residential construction work being completed. As this is our first newsletter for 2013 we would like to welcome back the many engineers and architects we have had the pleasure of working with in recent times and look forward to many more collaborative projects throughout the year.
In addition to Avoca Beach, we are currently completing projects in Terrigal and Pretty Beach on the Central Coast and Bayview and Dee Why in Sydney’s north. A new project at 11 Summit Avenue Dee Why is the neighbouring property of our recently completed major remodeling project at 15 Summit Avenue. We showcase the result of this stunning cliff top construction project in this newsletter.
Check out our feature articles in this edition that look at interesting interior design trends. One that has made a dramatic comeback – decorative wall coverings, the other a revolutionary new interior and exterior metal coating technology designed by Australian, multi award-winning design and manufacturing company Axolotl.

Add pizazz with wall coverings
Wall coverings made a comeback in a big way during 2011 and 2012 and top designers are expecting the trend to continue. Interior wall embellishment options for both residential and commercial settings are now virtually endless. No longer just limited to paper, today’s wall coverings are crafted from a range of fabrics and embellishments, including braided hemp, metallics, wood veneers, glass beading and shell mosaics just to name a few.
Wall coverings in residential situations can be used to break up a room, make a statement, highlight your personality or create a distinctively glamorous look and feel.
In commercial applications, the right wall coverings can enhance an interior, bring harmony or energy to a space and will also improve the durability of wall surfaces.
Some of our residential and commercial clients choose to engage the services of an interior designer to specify products and finishes for the interior of their property and often this will include wall coverings.
Wall covering suppliers that we have found really know what they are doing are:

Another cliff hanger
Neighbours of our client’s property at number 15 Summit Avenue, Dee Why were so impressed with the major remodeling work we completed "down the road", that we have now been engaged to construct their home at number 11 Summit Avenue.
Occupying a stunning cliff top location with sweeping views over Dee Why and Curl Curl beach, number 15 Summit Avenue required strong attention to drainage as it was excavated into a rock shelf that had experienced considerable water seepage through its surface. Darren, our site foreman, reports an extensive system of Ag lines and drainage pits offered effective waterproofing and the use of galvanised and stainless steel products were paramount to the success of the project.
Further, the floor was constructed from Hebel blocks and ESP polystyrene cladding was used for the home’s exterior. Both products provided the feel and insulation qualities of a full concrete dwelling at a more affordable rate. A strong focus on wall insulation and specialised glass has resulted in a home that retains a comfortable temperature year round without the need for ducted air conditioning.
The owners are delighted with the attention to detail and the harmonious way in which the project was completed within the anticipated timeframe. Photos of this project are available to view on our Facebook page.

Developing community facilities
We are often asked by local councils to tender alongside a number of other construction companies to complete the building works for the development, extension or revitalisation of various community facilities. Examples of project tenders we have won and subsequently completed in the past are:
The Hamlyn Terrace Community Centre and Sporting Complex
The Peninsula Recreation Precinct
Kariong Child Care Centre
Following successful completion of the Kariong Child Care Centre late last year, we were invited by Gosford City Council to tender on the proposed upgrade of council owned Child Care Centres in a number of locations on the southern end of the Central Coast. We have since completed revitalisation works at the Umina Childcare Centre.
Building works at Child Care facilities require detailed knowledge about and strict adherence to specific safety and compliance regulations.
